Message the TC'y of aluminum is ~100, while mild steel is about 27 and SS304 is about 10 (BTU/ft-hr-F). You want to dissipate the heat as quickly as possible, so you'd want the highest TC'y material (Al or mild steel) versus SS. Either way, the point may be moot as you say. You didn't bark up the wrong tree, I'm glad you even took the time to chime in.
